The concept of Zionism, or the proclamation of one’s self as Zionist, has evolved from allegiance to a nationalistic, socialist movement, to a deeply politicized statement that illicits strong emotions from people all over the political spectrum. Mere identification with the term “Zionist” may cause certain adherents to both the political left and the right  to dangerously misrepresent a relatively broad political ideology.

The right of Jewish self-determination should not be questioned by political disunity. This right is an answer to a tireless history of attempts at destroying the Jewish people; the answer being: never again will a Jew be without a safe haven to turn to in the face of the next violet boomerang-like return of anti-semitism.

Current events surrounding Israel, however, are always highly politicized. I will never question the validity or the right of Jews to have their own state; rather I am attempting to understand the complexities of Israeli culture and its internal and external conflicts.

My love for the The Jewish State is the catalyst for a quest for a clear reality behind polarized headlines and irrational cries regarding Israel. With a solid confidence in my beliefs, I am encouraged to look into events with a curiosity for truth, whether that truth is flattering to perceptions of Zionism, its hecklers, or any person and idea in between.
